Complete spoilers follow immediately to Andor Season 2, to and including episode 9.
Genevieve O’Reilly has revealed why he was “so nervous” for finally giving the famous speech of the Senate of Mon Mothma in a Star Wars project.
Before Andor Season 2 launched at the end of April, I sat down with O’Reilly to discuss the scene that is not only a historical moment for Chandrilan’s senator, but also for O’Reilly.
O’Reilly is recognized for portraying Mon Mothma in Andor In Disney+, but he has actually played the character in multiple projects since 2005 Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.
Throughout his 20 -year career (and counting!) As part of the legendary science fiction franchise of Lucasfilm, O’Reilly has never had the opportunity to give life to the greatly significant speech of his character before. However, that has changed now. For the delight of Star Wars fans who have waited for years for this moment, Mon Mothma is finally in his proverbial box of soap to denounce Emperor Palpatine for his autocratic rule of that iconic galaxy very, very far.
It is an enormously crucial moment for Mon Mothma, the nascent rebel alliance and the galaxy in general.
In fact, while Mon Mothma has been part of Galaxy’s rebellion throughout Luthen’s galaxy for years at this time, he has greatly operated in the shadows to keep herself and her family safe from the curious eyes of the galactic empire.
All that is thrown out of the window in the ninth episode of this season. Emotionally devastating events in season 2 episode 8, which represented Ghorman’s massacre throughout his heartbreaking Gloria, an event Andor Season 2 has been the basis for its first episode: Mon Mothma decides to take a public position against the emperor and those who follow all their whims.
When addressing the Senate in one of the last episodes of Disney+ Disney+ shows, Mon Mothma not only condemns Palpatine for the killing of innocent and largely peaceful Protestants in Ghorman, but completely rejects his tyrannical leadership.
Vilified by his companions senators (apart from Bail Organa, anyway, that he supports her in silence) and knowing that the empire will come for her, Mon Mothma runs away from the scene.
With the help of Cassian Andor, who has been sent by Luthen Rael to take her to a safe place, Mon Mothma escapes Coruscant. Outside the screen, it has passed to the ghost crew, also known as the heroes of Star Wars: rebels, In season 3, episode 18, entitled ‘Secret position’, of that animated program. A couple of Rebels The characters appear in another live action series Star Wars: AhsokaAlso, which highlights even more connective tissue between numerous productions of Lucasfilm.
But I’m deviating. Andor He has been building towards this important moment of Mon Mothma since we reintroduced ourselves in mid -2012. O’Reilly has also hosted the ambitions to give this speech for almost two decades, so how did he finally feel it in one of the new 2025 Star Wars shows?
“The opportunity to give that speech, as well as the previous period, was all I could have expected,” O’Reilly replied.
“I was so nervous that, because it existed previously in Canon, we may not be able to visit it. But what [showrunner] Tony [Gilroy] Did, which was so intelligent, is a space to allow us to see that moment.
I was so nervous that … we could not be able to visit it

“I think everything makes sense about her,” O’Reilly continued, “and not just her. It makes sense of our show. If the sacrifice is at all, Mon has to understand and be at peace with what he has to sacrifice.
“I also think it is important to mention that a voice can be powerful. It is not the fact that we collect weapons, but perhaps a voice can change things, and that speaks of everything that I think Mon Mothma is valuable for rebellion.”
Andor Season 2 Episodes 1 to 9 are already available in Disney+. The last three chapters will be broadcast on May 13 (USA) and May 14 (United Kingdom and Australia).
