Fine:
A session in fine has granted a 17 -year prison period to the former MNA, Jamshed Dasti after finding him guilty of using a false academic title to compete.
The case, initiated by the Pakistan Electoral Commission (ECP), claimed that Dasti played the 2008 general elections on the basis of a fraudulent degree. The SENDH Higher Education Commission confirmed “had no registration of the title in question.”
The Prosecutor’s Office argued that Dasti had violated articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution hiding the truth about his qualifications and, therefore, was not eligible to occupy a public office. He was chosen from Na-178 Muzaffarhh in 2008, but then was disqualified when the title was declared invalid.
Despite the previous disqualification, Dasti was re-elected in the general elections of 2024 of Na-175 Muzaffarhrh. However, he faced disqualification once again, this time to send a false intermediate certificate.
In July 2025, the ECP disqualified Dasti after a reference sent by the president of the National Assembly along with two requests that seek their disqualification.
A three -member ECP bank, led by the member (Sindh) Nisar Durrani, heard a request presented by Ameer Akbar, raising concerns about the academic assets, liabilities and credentials of Dasti. During the audience, the ECP KP member questioned whether Dasti had revealed assets and scrutinized the authenticity of his listed FA rating.
The petitioner’s lawyer informed the commission that Dasti had falsely declared an intermediate rating, while in reality he had not even completed the registration, but presented a matrix certificate issued from the Karachi Board.
The ECP ruled in favor of the petitioners, approved two requests for disqualification and ordered that criminal procedures against Dasti be initiated. The legal action is being carried out under articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution and sections 4, 9 and 137 of the 2017 Elections Law.
In May 2025, the ECP ordered the Karachi Education Board to verify the academic credentials of Dasti, further intensifying the legal pressure on the political controversial.
Dasti’s political career, once rooted in populist rhetoric and independent policy, now seems to be tarnished by repeated legal setbacks and disqualifications linked to the forged educational qualifications. Legal procedures are ongoing, and additional consequences are expected in the light of recent convictions.
