- ExpressVPN has added a new ‘Faster Location’ feature
- The vendor also launched its first truly native macOS app
- Both updates are rolling out to iOS, Android, and macOS users.
ExpressVPN just released two major updates aimed at making its service faster and more intuitive for users on the go and at their desks.
The provider introduced a ‘Faster Location’ feature for instant, streamlined connections and launched its first native VPN app for Mac, promising a true desktop experience.
Both updates are designed to optimize the user experience, ensuring customers can connect securely with a single click while enjoying the best possible performance.
In an increasingly crowded field, these quality of life improvements are key for any service that wants to be considered the best VPN on the market, helping to eliminate friction and make digital privacy more accessible.
The ‘Faster Location’ tool is now available on ExpressVPN’s iOS, Android, and macOS apps. The new native Mac app is also available for all users to download today.
The need for speed with ‘Fastest Location’
As ExpressVPN explains in the announcement, the new ‘Faster Location’ feature is a significant improvement for users who prioritize speed and simplicity.
It replaces the previous ‘Location Smart’ and ‘Recents’ sections on the app’s home screen, and instead offers a single button to connect to the optimal VPN server based on real-time network conditions. This automated process is designed to deliver faster connection times and lower latency.
The update also brings more transparency to the server selection process. The app will now display the connection strength of the three or five fastest servers, which automatically updates whenever a new, more optimal location is detected. This allows users who still want to choose their server manually to make a more informed decision.
“We created Fastest Location to make secure connections completely simple,” Shay Peretz, COO of ExpressVPN, said in a statement. “It takes care of performance behind the scenes so users can focus on browsing safely, streaming smoothly, and staying protected without missing a beat.”
A true desktop experience for Mac
In addition to the new connection feature, ExpressVPN has released a new native app for macOS.
While the provider has long supported Apple desktop computers, the previous app was based on the iPad VPN version, brought to the Mac using Apple’s cross-compatibility features. The new app was built from the ground up using Apple’s Mac Catalyst framework.
This move to a native app means users can expect a smoother, more responsive experience that feels fully integrated with the macOS environment. The company promises faster startup times, sharper images, and improved multitasking performance. This aligns the Mac client with the vendor’s other “first-class” applications.
“We wanted the Mac version to be as refined as our other platforms,” Peretz said. “With this new native app, everything from launching to window resizing feels smoother, faster, and more in tune with macOS.” This investment in a specific platform experience demonstrates a commitment to its Apple user base, refining the desktop experience to be more powerful and intuitive.
