The manager of the Orioles, Brandon Hyde, called to the opening day of O’Neill “amazing”, and added that he has quickly learned to appreciate everything that his new gardener brings to the Club house.
“Incredible personality,” Hyde said about O’Neill. “I love how hard it is. It’s a type of team.”
O’Neill’s opening day home run began with St. Louis in 2020 and continued for four seasons, matching a brand held by Todd Sinkley (1994-97), Gary Carter (1977-80) and Yogi Berra (1955-58).

O’Neill took the brand’s exclusive possession when he connected on his solo opening day with the Boston Red Sox in 2024.
O’Neill arrived at the stadium on Thursday with two donut boxes from the popular Canadian chain Tim Hortons to share with his teammates from Baltimore. He did the same when he visited Toronto with the Red Sox last season.
Hyde said he would have no problem with O’Neill to repeat the delivery of donas on Friday.
“Whatever it works,” said Hyde. “Use the same clothes. Whatever you have done today, do it tomorrow.”
The Orioles finally opened the 2025 season by navigating to a 12-2 advantage over the tiles. Charlie Morton will take the launch mound for Baltimore on Friday night for game 2 of the four -game series. Kevin Gausman will begin for the tiles.
