Punjab police arrested the main suspect in the alleged group violation of a woman near the Faisalabad highway, police said on Friday.
The suspect, identified as Ali Sher, was arrested a few hours after the incident, according to the police.
According to the first information report (FIR), the incident occurred on March 25, 2025 in Chak No 62 JB Channan, when armed men intercepted a couple traveling on a motorcycle. A case was recorded under positions of theft and sexual aggression.
The assailants supposedly stole the victims before sexually assaulting the woman in front of her husband.
The police performed a medical examination, collected DNA samples and has completed the geographical in the crime scene.
After the arrest, the CM Maryam Nawaz expressed his gratitude to the police force and thanked God for the appropriate arrest. She personally monitored the operation and made sure that all the necessary steps to stop the suspect were taken. The prime minister also issued instructions for the immediate arrest of two accomplices involved in the crime.
Maryam Nawaz emphasized the importance of strict legal action against perpetrators, stating that those responsible for such horrible crimes must face severe punishment.
In addition, he reiterated his commitment to guarantee the safety of women and children, declaring that the incidents of sexual assault would not be tolerated under any circumstance.
Maryam Nawaz expressed concern about the growing number of such incidents and highlighted the need for stronger measures to prevent them.
She assured the public that her government would take all necessary measures to protect women and children from violence.
The last incident occurs in the midst of ongoing discussions in Pakistan about the implementation of more severe punishments for sexual crimes, following previous high profile cases.
Previously, in September 2020, a mother of two children was allegedly raped in a group by two thieves on the highway on an area under the jurisdiction of the Gujjarpura police.
