Fall into Chenab’s entrances while India put together the water

Islamabad:

A strong reduction of 91,000 CUSEC has been observed in water flows from India to the Chenab River in the last two days, the Water and Energy Development Authority (WAPDA) said on Saturday.

According to the data, the entry of water in the heads Marala del Río Chenab stood at 98,200 Cusecs on May 29. However, it fell dramatically to 44,800 Cusecs per day later.

For Saturday, the entrance was submerged even more to only 7,200 cusecs, without discharging water downstream. The low levels marked a general reduction of 91,000 CUSECs in Marala Headworks in two days.

However, the Flood Forecast Division of the Department of Meteorology of Pakistan classified the water flow in Marala Barge as “normal”, pointing out a continuous downward trend.

It is pertinent to keep in mind that this is not the first interruption this month. On May 5, just before an increase in military tensions between the two neighbors, India had practically stopped water releases in Pakistan of Chenab without emitting any prior notice.

Earlier on Friday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif issued a solid statement, denouncing India’s attempts to arm water.

He warned that Pakistan would not tolerate any violation of the Indo Water Treaty (IWT) or no action that endangers millions for the good of the narrow political agendas.

“Pakistan would not allow Delhi to cross the red line keeping the IWT in suspense and endangering millions of lives for narrow political profits,” said Prime Minister.
