Pakistan’s superstar, Fawad Khan, will return in Bollywood’s cinema while staring at the next romantic film ‘Abir Gulaal’ with the Indian star Vaani Kapoor.
The film was announced last year and manufacturers gave fans a glance by dropping a teaser on April 1.
‘Abir Gulaal’ will be launched on May 9 and the Pakistani pink fans were full of online emotion while tune in with the teaser with Fawad and Vaani in a car listening to and vibrating the iconic song “Kucha na kaho” of “1942: a love story”.
When taking his Instagram account, Vaani shared the teaser and subtitled it with: “The wait has ended! Bring love to the big screen with Abir Gulaal and @Fawadkhan81. A richest lens movie @aricherlens. We see you in theaters on May 9!” And added a magic and heart emoji towards the end of the text.
Unfortunately, the dark clouds also loom about the fate of the film, which is Fawad’s first appearance in Bollywood since he starred in “Ae Dil Hai Mushkil” by Karan Johar in 2016.
The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), a regional party in Mumbai led by Raj Thakeray, has strongly opposed the projection of the film in Maharashtra.
Mns’s spokeswoman, Ameya Khopkar, reacted strongly to the announcement of the film’s release date, warning that the party will not allow the film to be screened in Maharashtra.
“The film Abir Gulal will not be allowed to launch in India, point. Those who wish to support Pakistani artists can do so, but remember, you are faced with us,” wrote the spokesman in X.
Fawad was absent from Indian cinema due to an unofficial prohibition of Pakistani artists in India after the 2016 URI attack. Collaborations with Pakistani artists were discouraged by the Association of Indian films producers (AMPPA) when approved a resolution.
However, in 2023, the official prohibition was dismissed by the Superior Court of Bombay after it received a petition that sought the official prohibition of Pakistani artists.
