- Microsoft is changing edge for better in the European economic zone
- This is happening due to the Digital Markets Law in that region
- It means that Edge will stop bothering to be the predetermined browser
Microsoft is yielding with its constant incitement to people to use the Edge browser in Windows 11, but not everyone gets this welcome relief.
Unfortunately, Edge’s thrust somehow is only being reduced in the European economic area (EEE) due to the rules imposed by the Digital Markets Law. Without such regulatory pressure in the US, or elsewhere, these edge restrictions are not happening.
Techspot noticed that Microsoft’s blog post that presents these various changes, the key is that Edge will stop bother Browser
Another change is that when Edge is uninstalled, he will not get other Microsoft applications that indicate that he reinstates it.
In addition, when you set any web browser as your default choice, you will have many more file formats (and types of links) linked to it, instead of having some types of files still open. This stopped as another cunning way to return to the advantage in his radar after having chosen to take a great position.
In addition, when using the Windows search box and clicking on a web search result, it will open in the chosen predetermined browser, instead of edge, in Bing.
All these changes should be in their place soon, and will be implemented in June in the EEE, except for the main one, which is already in place as noted.
Far from Edge, another more potentially considerable point for Windows users in this region is that they can uninstall the Microsoft store, if you wish. However, that movement will not come until later in 2025.
Microsoft clarifies that if you eliminate the Microsoft store, but you have already used it to install some applications, that software will continue to receive updates to ensure that you get the last security patches, which is good news.
ANALYSIS: Give us all, Microsoft
These are welcome movements for Windows 11 and 10 users in this region, but it would be good if Microsoft could implement them in another place as well. However, without the relevant authorities that breathe through the software giant neck, it will do nothing like that. All these behaviors will persist outside the EEE because Microsoft clearly believes that they can help take more users to erase.
When, in fact, they are more likely to lead people through the wall. Insist repeatedly that people should use the edge on scenarios of various degrees of overreach is an exhausting policy, as well as an advantage always that it is possible, instead of using the predetermined browser option. That must always be the default value; No matter what is happening, the track is in the name of Microsoft.
Do not expect Microsoft’s general attitude to change soon. Even so, at least some people will enjoy a slightly less loaded experience of Nag in Windows 11, and less cases of climbing by the edge on the screen of their monitor in an attempt to remind them that it exists. However, most of us, without a doubt, we can expect more emerging windows and general oddities in terms of some of the efforts more of the left field that Microsoft has done to promote its browser.
