- Windows 11 search results will soon include Microsoft Store applications
- You will be given a button to directly grab and install any relevant application.
- Some people are no longer happy with this, and cry out for the ability to disable this behavior (when it arrives)
Microsoft has been working on the search functionality of Windows 11 in recent times, bringing some ingenious ideas, but an incoming change that appeared on the radar has not been so well received.
In fact, the announcement that Microsoft Store applications will appear in the search results of Windows 11, made by Giorgio Sardo (Vice President of App Store in Microsoft) is already causing some unhappiness. See the Sardinian publication in X below, as marked by Neowin, and take into account the immediate reaction.
Soon: Microsoft Store integration with Windows Search! 🔎 Find and install applications directly from your starting menu or taskbar! Arriving soon, let us know what he thinks! 💻 #Windows #Microsoftstore pic.twitter.com/ma9ib8evrrMay 6, 2025
How this is that when you turn on a search on Windows 11, using the search box in the taskbar or on the start menu, the Microsoft store is fully integrated, and any application of the store that fits your query will be highlighted in these results.
As you can see in the screen screenshot provided in X (expand the previous publication to see it), the Grammarly application is presented when writing in a search for ‘gram’ along with a large button to obtain the software. Click that and will be directly in a download of the application.
(Keep in mind that there is a link to ‘open in the Microsoft store’ hidden, which will obviously send it to the application page in the store, so I suppose to click on the ‘Get’ button you must directly start the software download).
ANALYSIS: Can you turn it off?
This has not been a popular idea. As mentioned, the reaction in X has been mainly around the idea that this is ‘another characteristic to disable’, but, of course, it is not clear if it will be something that can tell Windows 11 to stop doing. Hope is a lot that this is the case, and I would add my voice to those who argue that this should be an option here, if Microsoft is bringing this.
However, this turn in the search seems to be incoming for the operating system, since the Microsoft Executive mentions that “it will arrive soon” in unequivocal terms. This functionality was also covered in the recent in -depth look that we obtained in the new features that arrived for Windows 11, including the redesign of the Big Start menu (and a lot of things for co -pilot+ PC, including an AI agent to change the configuration in the operating system).
In the blog publication, transmitting all those features that are about to enter the tests for Windows 11, Microsoft mentioned something that I missed completely when writing initially about this (the bold is mine to emphasize): “We also continue to improve and expand the improved Windows search, helping him find what he is looking for in more places. Coming to Windows Insids of Windows. [testers] At the end of this month, we present the ability to find the Windows configuration and Search and quickly install applications in the Microsoft store. “
Leaving this wrinkle aside, another introduction is causing Microsoft to improve the search in Windows 11 is really quite exciting, since it begins to the functionality of natural language. The capture with this is that this search for conversational style uses AI, so it is only for co -pilot+ PCs. Not long ago, a file search application was also rumored, and this could be a possible step forward for the broader search capabilities of Windows 11.
In the recent history of Windows 11, a good job has also been done to complete the performance of the Microsoft store, but that has caught less than these changes in the search as I could imagine.
