The Judicial Magistrate of the South District on Tuesday sent Qurughan Qureshi to judicial custody in an ongoing investigation into an illegal operation of the call center, expressing dissatisfaction with the failure of the FIA in showing progress despite the repeated extensions of physical remumption.
Armughan, who is also the main accused in the case of high profile murder Mustafa Amir, was produced before the court at the end of his last preventive detention. The FIA investigator (IO) officer sought greater custody, stating that during the interrogation, the defendant had revealed the identities of more than five alleged accomplices and revealed details of accounts and digital addresses, which required more survey.
However, the court questioned the need to extend the physical prison more, stating that the defendant had already been in custody of the FIA for almost two months. “You have not done anything in four presses,” said the magistrate, criticizing the slow rhythm of the FIA research.
The court also asked about the legal representation of the accused and if he had undergone some form of abuse during the detention. In response, Armughan declared disparagingly: “Do what you want,” and then remained silent despite the repeated questions of the judge. The judge commented that the defendant had appeared cooperative in the previous procedures, but now he did not respond.
A lawyer present in the Court Chamber raised an objection, qualifying the detention of the accused of the Court. The magistrate recognized the concern, adding: “This is not an ordinary case” and referred to the alleged participation of the accused in multiple cases. The FIA argued that access to the accused digital wallets and even more recoveries were still pending. However, the Court ruled that the investigation had been granted sufficient time for such purposes and denied the request for a new remission.
The magistrate ordered that Arosughan be sent to the prison in judicial prison and ordered the FIA to present the final challan at the next hearing.
