Islamabad:
After a visit of almost a week to the United States, the general marshal general, Syed also Munir, arrived on Saturday in what seems part of Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts to seek the end of the current Iran-Israel War.
His meeting at the White House with the president of the United States, Donald Trump, discussed the Middle East crisis in detail and, according to the reports, the Army Chief communicated Pakistan’s concerns about the growing tensions between Israel and Iran.
The Army Chief, in line with the declared position of Pakistan, pressed for a diplomatic solution to the conflict that has the potential to wrap the entire region. After a meeting of more than two hours with the chief of the Pakistani army, President Trump said Pakistan knew better about Iran than most others.
He also said that Pakistan was not happy with “nothing.” However, the president of the United States did not elaborate, Pakistan’s unhappiness comes from the fact that Iran-Israel’s war has great repercussions for the country.
It is believed that Trump carefully listened to the opinion of the Pakistani military leader about the Iran-Israel War and some even linked the decision of the president of the United States to delay his decision to join Israel against Iran for two weeks for his meeting with the Munir Field Marshal.
The arrival of the Army Chief to Istanbul gives credit to the reports that Pakistan could be playing some role to calm the crisis. Interestingly, Iranian Foreign Minister is also in Istanbul as part of the ongoing diplomatic efforts to end the Israel-Iran War.
There is no clarity if the Army Chief will have a scheduled meeting for Iranian Foreign Minister. But observers believe that such a meeting is not ruled out given given Pakistan to seek the end of the conflict.
Pakistan has become one of the key players, since he enjoys close links with Iran while developing a nearby Bonhomie with President Trump. Experts say that Pakistan is in a unique position to play a mediator role between the United States and Iran.
However, others say that the United States has a direct communications channel with Iran through the special envoy of President Trump in the Middle East. Pakistan, however, can be part of the multiple diplomatic channels that seek a political solution to the crisis.
