Field Marshal Munir analyzes global and regional security with Marco Rubio in Germany

Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, NI (M), HJ, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Chief of Defense Forces (CDF), on Saturday held talks with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on regional and global security and counter-terrorism cooperation on the sidelines of the 62nd Munich Security Conference.

During the engagement, the two sides discussed matters of mutual interest, including evolving security dynamics and counter-terrorism measures, according to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The army chief visited Germany from February 12 to 14 to attend meetings on the sidelines of the annual security forum.

The field marshal also interacted with German authorities and military leaders from Brazil and Lebanon, focusing on contemporary security issues, bilateral defense cooperation and the need to promote global peace and security through bilateral and multilateral dialogue.

As part of their engagement with the German authorities, “COAS and CDF visited Mr. Alexander Dobrindt, Federal Minister of the Interior of the Federal Republic of Germany, Mr. Günter Sautter, Foreign Policy and Security Policy Advisor to the Federal Chancellor of Germany and General Carsten Breuer, Chief of Defense of the Federal Armed Forces.”

“The meetings focused on contemporary security issues, bilateral defense cooperation and the need to promote global peace and security through bilateral and multilateral dialogue,” the statement added.

“In addition, COAS and CDF held a productive meeting with Admiral Renato Rodrigues de Aguiar Freire, Chief of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Brazilian Armed Forces and discussed bilateral military cooperation.”

Gen. Rodolph Haykal, commander of the Armed Forces of the Lebanese Republic, also called on the COAS, the military’s media wing said.

“During the interaction, the global and regional security situation and measures to enhance bilateral defense collaboration were discussed,” ISPR said.
