With Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers facing off against his former Green Bay Packers team as both teams looked for their fifth win of the season, the atmosphere was bound to get hectic at Acrisure Stadium on Sunday night.

A massive scrum on the field in the second half resulted in several referees taking hits trying to break things up.

The Packers had a 22-19 lead in the fourth quarter when Steelers linebacker Nick Niemann was penalized for instigating an altercation. As the penalty flag touched the grass, a huge fight ensued involving players from both teams.

Several players became involved and referees were trying to calm the situation when two of them fell to the ground as the fight continued.

It all started when Pittsburgh’s Ben Skowronek was attacked by two Packers players during the opening kickoff. Nick Herbig stepped up to defend Skowronek and pushed Bo Melton to the ground.

Play was stopped for a moment as the referees resolved the fight, and it was Steelers linebacker Nick Herbig who ultimately received an unnecessary roughness penalty, resulting in a 15-yard gain for the Packers.

From that point on, however, the tension continued for both teams until the final whistle saw the Packers emerge victorious, 35-25, in a game in which Rodgers attempted to become the fifth quarterback in NFL history to beat all 32 teams in his career.

It was the first time since being traded to the New York Jets that Rodgers faced the Packers, the team with which he won a Super Bowl and his four MVP awards. But his former trainee Jordan Love was the best quarterback in this one, as he threw for three touchdowns and 360 yards on the road Sunday night.

Two of those touchdowns went to tight end Tucker Kraft, who led the team with seven receptions for 143 yards in the primetime scrimmage.

However, there were times when Rodgers looked great for the Steelers, including touchdown passes to DK Metcalf and Roman Wilson. But multiple drives stalled for Pittsburgh, leading to multiple field goal attempts by Chris Boswell, which kept the Steelers in the game.

The Packers also put pressure on Rodgers all night, as Micah Parsons and Rashan Gary couldn’t stop getting into the backfield.
