Rawalpindi:
The fate of the district of Rawalpindi hung in the balance in terms of development and progress of the infrastructure last year, since the severe financial crunch in Punjab was fatal for the district.
Despite high claims and strong ads, you cannot start a single mega project for public development and well -being. Ten mega projects with revised ascending costs have still been pending.
Due to the non -allocation of funds for these 10 projects in the last three years, these projects have become white elephants, since their estimated cost has increased between 40 and 60% due to the high costs of construction materials In the history of the country.
Among these 10 mega projects are the Ghazi Brotha Water Supply, Ring Road, Leh Express, Dam Dam, Wastewater Treatment Plant, Update of Filtration Plants of the Rawal Dam, Zacha Bacha Hospital (Mother-Child) , Water supply scheme of the Chahan dam, commercial parking space, square, and lie about the new small diameter pipe in the obsolete cemented pipeline from the Rawal dam to the city of Rawalpindi.
Many more projects were also added to the Annual Development Program (ADP), but a single penny of funds was not even launched for any of them. The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA), the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA), the District Council and the Municipal Corporation (MC) expressed their excuses to initiate these projects due to the lack of availability of funds.
Rawalpindi was supposed to obtain 400 million gallons of water per day through three phases of the Ghazi Barotha water supply project to meet the water requirements for the next 100 years. For this, a 60 km 80 km water pipe must be placed from Ghazi Barotha to Sangjani. Its estimated cost was RS17 billion in 2006, which has now increased to RS105b due to continuous delays.
The Leh Express, a road project without 30 km signals, began in 2008, but closed when the PML-N came to power. Its estimated cost at that time was RS17B and has now reached RS100b today.
In the future, a wastewater treatment plant project would be built to completely eliminate floods in the city of Rawalpindi during the Monzones with an estimated cost of RS30B in 2019, which has now reached RS60B. Under this, a large wastewater pipe with 10 feet wide on both sides of the lake was placed.
Similarly, the 5,500 Kanal Gorakhpur water treatment plant had to be established in the WASA Earth, but it was also delayed. The base stone of the Rawalpindi Ring Road (RRR) project was placed in 2022. The work began but stopped as the government changed. During the last three years, the officers and commissioners of the GDR have been making advertisements on the RRR project every month, but delayed financing has practically stagnated the key project.
As the estimated 38 km long RRR cost has increased by around 40% and still the files to prepare their new estimated cost have become a rolling stone between Punjab and the Federation. The Punjab main minister established deadlines for the completion of the project three times, but was in vain.
The Daducha DAM project began in 2005 and the work in it began in 2021. But it also suffered due to the lack of funds, since its estimated cost has increased in RS2B.
The new Chahan Dam Water Supply project to meet the water requirements of the Unionians Water Prize (UCs) and the cliff areas also faced a shortage of funds at the beginning. The estimated cost of the project was initially RS3B, which has now touched RS6B. This year, this key scheme also stopped due to the non -discreet funds.
