A fire that broke out at Al Najeebi e-market in Saddar, Karachi, was brought under control on Monday and cooling was underway, according to Rescue 1122 spokesperson.
A statement from Rescue 1122 said firefighters, along with rescue teams and an ambulance, were sent to the scene after receiving information.
Rescue 1122 spokesperson Hassaan Ul Haseeb Khan said in an update that the fire had been brought under control and the cooling process was underway. He said all people were evacuated safely and a search was underway for more as the department managed to enter the building, adding that two people were affected and fell unconscious from the smoke.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah immediately took notice of the incident and sought a report from the Karachi commissioner.
He also ordered immediate rescue and relief operations in the affected buildings.
The Prime Minister contacted the Mayor, Commissioner and Police Chief of Karachi.
“The first priority is that if people are trapped in the market, they must be evacuated first. Human lives must be saved at all costs, and then properties must be saved.
“The police must control the crowds so that firefighting work can be carried out properly. Ensure timely supply of water to firefighters from water tankers. Carry out rescue work with municipalities, administration and police teamwork,” the prime minister said in a statement.
He added that he ordered personnel to work and coordinate with other departments to properly handle the rescue operation.
Sindh Inspector General of Police Javed Alam Odho ordered the senior superintendent of police south and the superintendent of traffic police to reach the spot and gave orders to clear the way for relief vehicles.
He also ordered the security of other businesses and markets near the main affected building.
