Pakistan has reported its first MPOX case of 2025, identified during the examination of border health services at Bacha Khan International Airport in Peshawar.
According to the spokesman of the Ministry of Health, the alleged case tested positive, which raised the total number of MPOX cases to 10 since the emergency of health was declared, said Express News.
According to reports, the patient had a travel history linked to Gulf countries.
The Health Coordinator, Dr. Mukhtar Bharth, declared: “We are ensuring effective measures to protect MPOX’s public. All airports have solid detection systems, and compliance with international health regulations are guaranteed. Both federal governments As the provincials are committed to combining Mpox.
Meanwhile, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s health advisor Ehtesham Ali confirmed that the first MPOX case of 2025 was reported at Peshawar airport.
After the detection, the public health team immediately arrived at the airport.
In addition, he added: “The public health team transferred the patient to the Police Services Hospital, from where the patient’s samples were sent to the Public Health Reference Laboratory. MPOX was confirmed in a 35 -year -old person who arrived from Dubai” .
The provincial health advisor also mentioned that a letter was sent to the Peshawar airport manager requesting the passenger details of those who are close to the patient.
“Once the passenger information is received, the respective health officers of the District (DHO) will be notified for contact tracking,” he added.
The statement revealed that so far a total of 10 MPOX cases have been reported in the province, with two in 2023, seven in 2024 and the first case of 2025.
The authorities have urged the public to practice social distancing and remain attentive.
Last year, the Ministry of Health confirmed the eighth case of the country’s MPOX virus this year, involving a 32 -year -old patient who had recently returned from the Gulf.
The patient has been isolated and is receiving treatment, according to the spokesman of the Ministry of Health, Sajid Shah. “It is experiencing mild symptoms and is expected to recover soon,”
Pakistan reported his first MPOX case in August and since then he has implemented rigorous detection protocols in airports and border crossings to stop the propagation of the virus.
While a mutated strain of MPOX, Cade I, led the World Health Organization to declare a global health emergency in August, Pakistan has not yet informed any case of this new variant.
Clade I emerged for the first time in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and since then it has extended internationally, which caused greater monitoring and preventive measures.
