Last week, it was learned that the Auto Slate project backed by Amazon would begin the production of its reduced price collection next year, but the company is not alone.
While the price has not yet been determined, Isuzu, possibly one of the most emblematic names in commercial vehicles, has said that it will release an electric version of its D-Max truck in 2026.
Although its range is surprisingly scarce in some markets (only D-Max is now sold in the United Kingdom, for example), the company enjoys success in Asia, including its internal market in Japan, Thailand and others, where solid and reliable trucks are essential for daily life.
The D-Max EV joins the tastes of KGM (previously Ssangyong) Musso Electrified, the Maxus Etterron 9, the next Byd Shark and a series of cheap electrified trucks that could soon open from China.
While Ford and Chevrolet’s tastes experienced relatively slow sales of electric collection, the market could soon become the next Battlefield EV very answered for global manufacturers.
The trailer, transport of transport and off -road performance have typically proven input barriers for this body style, but Isuzu states that its EV is on par with the diesel option that also offers: it can transport more than 1,000 kg in bed, tow 3,500 kg and accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 10.1 seconds.
The 66.9kwh battery is located under the floor and the EV version uses the same staircase chassis as the existing truck. Although here, Isuzu adds permanent four -wheel drive with an engine on the front and rear axes.
According to the brand, the performance outside the road is not affected by the electrified motor train, with a strong 210 mm away to the ground and a depth of wadeing up to 600 mm. There are also steep focus and exit angles for when the terrain becomes difficult.
Collect a bargain
Isuzu has not revealed an official price for the D-Max EV, but we would expect it to be substantially more than around $ 53,000 / £ 40,000 / AU $ 84,000, currently charges for a version with diesel.
This places it in the Ford F-150 Lightning’s shooting line, which offers an EV range of 230 miles in the most basic variants. Isuzu, on the other hand, says that his truck drives around 163 miles with a single load.
As we have seen with several electric trucks, including the Tesla Cybertruck, the transport of transport or trailer loads has a great impact on the electrical range that, for many, is already too tight for daily use cases.
Slate Auto has been honest on the range of batteries and the very basic nature of its next model, but the result is that it seems to be really affordable. Those trucks offered by Ford, Chevrolet, Rivian, Tesla and now Isuzu are probably too expensive for many, given the commitments.
But electrical commercial vehicles are growing rapidly in popularity, since technology is improving and many governments continue to encourage their use for environmental reasons.
According to a report, the world market for electric trucks will reach an assessment of $ 78 billion by the end of 2033, compared to an assessment of $ 19.5 billion in 2023.
With a large number of cheaper electric models that will arrive from China in the coming years, as well as those of the most established western brands, the electric truck market could be the next very answered battlefield for sales.
