Islamabad:
An audit has revealed that five countries owe dozens of Pakistan of millions of dollars, and the general auditor of Pakistan (AGP) recommended that the matter be assumed to the appropriate diplomatic level for recovery, arose on Tuesday.
Officials of the Ministry of Economic Affairs said they were looking for recovery through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, using diplomatic channels and joint ministerial committees. Reminder letters and demand notices have also been sent to the five predetermined countries.
According to the Audit Report, the Morable list includes Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Iraq, Sudan and Guinea-Bissau, from which until now Pakistan has not been able to recover $ 304.5 million.
The report says that Pakistan extended the export credit to these countries during the eighties and ninety years. In Pakistani currency, the unpaid amount exceeds 80 billion rupees.
IRAQ heads the list of debtors, with $ 231.3 million in circulation, followed by Sudan, which owes $ 46.6 million. Bangladesh’s pending debt amounts to $ 21.4 million, related to sugar and cement plants projects. Guinea-Bissau must $ 3,653 million.
The report indicates that the AGP had also marked unpaid amounts in the 2006-07 audit, at which time reminder letters and demand notices were sent.
