Rescue officials said the body of a miner Ziwarur Rehman has been recovered from the rubble, while efforts are underway to recover the remaining trapped workers. Heavy machinery is being used in the ongoing rescue operation, although progress is hampered by the depth of the mine and the accumulation of water inside.
A large number of relatives and residents of the victims’ hometowns have gathered at the accident site seeking updated information.
The tragic incident once again highlights the dire working conditions faced by coal miners from remote and underdeveloped regions like the Puran area of Shangla, where men often travel to distant districts in search of livelihood, risking their lives in unsafe mines.
Authorities have not yet issued a confirmed statement on the total number of victims, and the situation will become clearer once the rescue operation is concluded.
