Flood emergency imposed on 40 river areas

In view of the high flood situation in River Sutlej, the district administration has launched an operation to change residents and cattle from vulnerable areas to safer places.

The emergency has been declared in 40 river locations. The commissioner attached Lubna Nazir appealed to people who live near the river to move immediately to safer places.

She said that flood relief camps have been established where all essential facilities for affected families are provided.

The DC also urged residents to cooperate with administration and police to guarantee their own security.

According to official figures, until now 4,000 people and around 4,500 animals have been transferred to safe areas in the Lodhran district.

In DC instructions, district officers also visit affected locations to raise awareness about flood risks and caution measures.

Directing the residents of the nearby villages, Syed Wassan, attached commissioner (income) of Syed Hassan, said that the sandbags are preparing as a protective measure to control the flow of water in case of emergency.

He also appealed to citizens in areas affected by floods to move to safe sites designated when the necessary facilities are available.
