The Foreign Ministry established a crisis management cell on Friday to help Pakistani citizens affected by the devastating earthquake of magnitude 7.7 that hit Myanmar and parts of Thailand, killing more than 150 people and hurting hundreds more.
In an official statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed solidarity with the people of Myanmar and Thailand after what he described as an “unprecedented natural calamity.”
The Ministry has instructed the Pakistani embassies in Yangon and Bangkok to provide all the necessary emergency support and assistance to the nationals in the affected regions.
A Dedicated Crisis Management Unit (CMU) has also been activated in the Islamabad Foreign Ministry to monitor the situation and coordinate efforts to support Pakistani in need.

Earthquake details and consequences
The powerful earthquake hit near the old capital of Myanmar, Mandalay, around noon on Friday, at a superficial depth of 10 kilometers, according to the United States Geological Service (USGS). He was followed by a replica of 6.4 magnitude minutes later.
The MRTV state station reported at least 144 deaths and 732 injuries in Myanmar, with Mandalay, a city of 1.5 million and the old real capital of the country, suffering the worst part of the damage. The buildings, bridges and roads were widely damaged, while rescue operations were ongoing in several areas.
In neighboring Thailand, at least nine people were killed in Bangkok, where a building under construction of 33 floors collapsed. Rescuers continued looking for survivors trapped under the rubble.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated Pakistan’s support for affected countries and assured Pakistani citizens that consular teams were waiting to provide immediate relief when necessary.
