Islamabad:
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has requested a legal opinion of the Office of the Attorney General of Pakistan (AGP) with respect to the Pakistan government in the United States court regarding the release of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui.
The judge of the Superior Court of Islamabad (IHC), Sardar Ijaz Ishaq Khan, heard the case regarding the liberation and repatriation of Dr. Siddiqui, who is currently imprisoned in the United States. Dr. Fawzia Siddiqui’s lawyer, Imran Shafiq, and former Senator Mushtaq Ahmed and the officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs appeared in the court.
The Court was informed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had requested a legal opinion of the Office of the Attorney General on the legal assistance of the Pakistan government in the United States court regarding the release of Dr. Siddiqui.
The Attorney General’s Office asked the Court for a 10 -day subsidy to present the government’s response to the Court. The Court accepted the request of the additional attorney general and granted the time of a week and postponed the hearing until June 25.
