Foiled robbery at qawwal’s house in Lahore, suspect arrested

Chung police in Lahore successfully prevented a major robbery at the residence of renowned qawwal, Sher Miandad Khan. The incident occurred while the Khan family was attending a wedding function. The main suspect, a domestic worker employed by the family, was arrested shortly after the crime.

The robbery unfolded when Zarina Bibi, a domestic worker at the Khan household, stole valuable jewelery in the absence of the family.

The worker managed to flee the scene with the stolen items, but police acted quickly and used investigative technology to trace her whereabouts to her home, where she had buried the stolen jewelry in her backyard.

Police recovered approximately 6 tonnes of jewelery from the ground. They have registered a case against the maid, which will now go to court, where the suspect faces serious charges.

If convicted, Zarina Bibi could face imprisonment, a fine or both, depending on the value of the stolen property, as specified in section 379 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).

A recent example from Karachi involved a maid who stole jewelry worth 6.5 million rupees from her employer’s house before fleeing, underscoring the need for greater surveillance in homes across the city.
