- Samsung Viewfinity S8 37 inches 4k monitor weighs almost 9 kg
- Windows 11 support holds the device firmly focused on office tasks
- The biggest text in resolution 4K raises questions about genuine clarity gains
Samsung has introduced the Viewfinity S8 (S80ud), a 37-inch UHD monitor that seems to take the fight to a category where LG recently revealed its 37U7330-W of 36.5 inches.
Both companies seem to be testing if there is a demand for large format screens aimed at replacing dual monitor configurations while offering a range of features focused on the office.
This device seems to be the first 4k UHD commercial monitor of 37 inches in the world, although the claim is something debatable given the almost identical launch of LG.
Expanding the office monitor space
The Samsung model has a panel with a resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels and a standard 60Hz update rate.
Tüv Rheinland certification labels it as an ergonomic office exhibition, while the inclusion of intelligent ocular protection technology aims to reduce eye fatigue by limiting blue light and flickering.
A screen of this size means that the text is larger compared to a 32 -inch monitor to the same resolution, something that Samsung presents as a benefit for long work sessions.
With a weight of 8.9 kg with a thickness of approximately 25 cm, this device is not a portable monitor or a device that can move easily.
USB-C connectivity with up to 90 W allows direct support for a commercial laptop without requiring an additional power brick.
The monitor also includes a LAN port, which enables cable connections that can be passed to connected devices.
Its integrated KVM switch allows users to operate two computers with a single set of peripherals, while PBP and PIP modes allow simultaneous sources of entry on the screen.
These additions could optimize workflows, although in practice their usefulness will vary according to the user’s environment.
Samsung positions the Viewfinity S8 of 37 inches between its 32 -inch and 43 -inch offers, suggesting that it can be seen as an average land for users who find smaller, cumbersome or unnecessary dual screens.
The company argues that the broader screen reduces the need for window switching, but this idea is not new, and its real productivity benefits remain unseeds outside the controlled manifestations.
Unlike LG 36.5 inches 37U730SA-W with Webos, Samsung maintains the Viewfinity S8 firmly within the monitor category, promoting direct compatibility with Windows systems (Win11) instead of positioning it as an entertainment center.
The Samsung Viewfinity S8 is currently available on the Samsung US website with a retail price of $ 579.99, slightly cheaper than its LG counterpart.
