- The BBC publishes the first clip of Minta romantic crime drama created by Bully director charlotte reagan
- Stars Emma Laird, Ben Coyle-Larner, Sam Riley, Laura Fraser, Lewis Gribben and Lindsay Duncan
- Airing on BBC iPlayer sometime between April and May, exact release date TBC
If you thought Valentine’s Day was a hotbed for romantic television, think again. Sometime between April and May, BBC iPlayer will become the home of Minta self-proclaimed romantic comedy-drama from the mind of Bully director Charlotte Reagan.
This is enough information on its own to make me sit up, but the stacked cast, led by Emma Laird, Ben Coyle-Larner, Sam Riley, Laura Fraser, Lewis Gribben and Lindsay Duncan, means Mint is on its way to being an absolute success.
While we still have to wait to enjoy it (an official release date has yet to be confirmed), the BBC has released a first look. Combine playful mystery with the brave, vulnerable realism that Regan always delivers, and Mint easily becomes one of my most anticipated TV shows of 2026.
Look
Mint on BBC iPlayer could be the criminal version of Romeo and Juliet
Here’s the full synopsis: “In the heart of Mint is Shannon, the daughter of her area’s dominant crime family, desperately seeking romance in the shadow of her father, Dylan.
“We will experience the obsession of first love when Shannon falls madly in love with Arran, a member of a rival crime family who has just arrived in town. Their love story presents an undeniable connection that changes both of their lives forever, but not everyone in their lives sees it the same way.
“While Shannon and Arran navigate their forbidden romance, elsewhere things are imploding for Shannon’s family. At the beginning of our series, Dylan decides to step down as head of the family for mysterious reasons. Sam, Dylan’s second-in-command, steps up to take control, although his divergent tactics begin to raise alarm throughout our series.
“In the wake of Dylan’s decision, instead of focusing on the world of crime or succession politics, we are drawn into the various emotional worlds of Shannon’s family: her parents, Dylan and Cat, her older brother Luke, and her indomitable grandmother Ollie.”
tell me it’s not like that Romeo and Juliet with a distinctly British touch. Even the image above alone could be a Renaissance painting. The BBC never shy away from a TV show that feels completely unique and I’m hoping that Mint could push the boundaries of the genre. I mean, who even puts romance and crime together?
If you can’t wait, I recommend you watch Regan’s first film. Bully to enter the zone, which you can buy or rent on Apple TV in the US, UK, and Australia.
