Former FIFA president Sepp Blatter also spoke out in favor of a proposal to boycott the 2026 World Cup, questioning the suitability of the United States (US) to host the mega sporting event, citing the conduct of President Donald Trump and his administration at home and abroad.
Calls for a boycott are increasing, as a German football official and former president of FIFA’s Independent Governance Committee also previously made similar suggestions.

Previously, Pieth criticized the Trump administration’s immigration policies that advise fans to stay away from the United States and watch games on television, adding: “Upon arrival, fans will be transferred directly to the next flight home. If they are lucky enough.”
Earlier, a German soccer official, the president of Bundesliga club St. Pauli, Oke Gottlich, called on European teams to boycott the World Cup in protest against Trump’s efforts to seize Greenland, a semi-autonomous territory of the Kingdom of Denmark.
The World Cup is scheduled from June 11 to July 19. Canada, Mexico and the United States will jointly host the 104 games.
