The world series champion Mark Teixeira is throwing his hat in the political ring.
The former First Base of the New York Yankees announced his campaign for Congress in the 21st Texas district on Wednesday. He published an official statement on social networks, stating that he is “ready to help defend President Trump’s first agenda, Texas families and individual freedom.”
“As a proud Texan and conservative of a lifetime who loves our country, I am ready to fight for the principles that make Texas strong and exceptional America,” reads the statement. “Teamwork is needed to win, and I am ready to help defend President Trump’s first agenda, Texas families and individual freedom.”
Teixeira’s announcement follows the decision of Congressman Chip Roy not to seek re -election, since he is running for the office of the Texas Attorney General.
