Before the 1982 season, the Sox exchanged it with the Tigers, and the movement looked like an early victory for Chicago. Lemon’s average batting fell from .302 to .266. The next season, he hit .255.
But he had a resurgence in 1984, raising his average A .287 with a slugging percentage of .495, the second best of his career. He obtained his third and last all-Star assent that season.
In the ’84 World Series, Lemon hit .294 in five games. He and his teammates were honored in Erica Park in September to commemorate the 40th anniversary of that title.

“While he was champion of the World Series and All-Star in the field, perhaps his greatest impact arose from that. That includes creating the Chet Lemon Foundation and dedicating much of his career after the game to the development of youth baseball,” the tigers said in a statement. “Our thoughts are with the family, friends of Chet and everyone who trained, advised and inspired.”
“Chet was a teammate and friendly friend,” said former teammate and member of the Hall of Fame, Alan Trammell, in his own statement. “I am very grateful for the time we spent together last summer when the 1984 team had its 40th meeting in Erica Park. Today is a sad day for us. We will miss it a lot.”
Lemon also led the league to be beaten by launches four times.

A blood disorder in 1990 played a role in Lemon’s career, he saw himself about to shorten after 16 seasons. A year later, I was in intensive care due to a blood clot. Over the years, he had numerous health problems, including a series of blows. He had been living in Florida at the time of his death.
