The former USMNT player, Stu Holden, identified a big problem that the team must solve before the World Cup begins next year.
Holden, 39, said the team needs to find out what players will be in the field.
“I think that the biggest problem for the USMNT is to discover who are the 11 types that are going to leave in that field on June 12, 2026, which can inspire people and obtain results. There has been nothing in two years since the World Cup in Qatar that has made me feel that we have advanced from now on,” said Holden News Digital.

“I think that is the objective of development and the amount of investment that we have put in the game in this country is that I have not seen anything that makes me think that we are going to do anything we have not done before.”
“This is this group of players, not only making us believe, but to make him believe, but to believe in obtaining some results and developing an impulse at that time. So that when they go to that field, they know they can do the job.”
In the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, the United States was knocked out in the 16th round. One of the USMNT tournaments has to determine its 11 initial players for the World Cup is the Gold Cup.
However, the best USMNT player, Christian Pulisic, is not playing in the Gold Cup, what Holden said it is a big problem.
“I think it’s a big problem, because I think that every time the United States national team is playing, I want the best 23, 11, whatever, American players who play in those fields at that time. And I also want players who are excited to play and represent their national team at every moment,” said Holden.

“And it’s not just a ‘hu, maybe come at this time’. So, I think that’s what is losing us.
Pulisic will return with USMNT for the World Cup, but Holden has a player that fans must take into account apart from Pulisic.
“I think Weston McKennie is a player who always excites me because he only has a really crude talent. He is an excellent athlete but he is also just a player. In some of the most important moments, he appears with a goal,” said Holden.
“My hope is that he is a guy who takes and takes away some of that responsibility for the World Cup next year and being a guy who can really create some moments. We cannot have a good player, we need to have four to five of our best players playing at their absolute maximum so that this team does something special.”
Holden played for the USMNT since 2008-2013 and the midfielder scored three goals in his mandate.

The 39 -year -old is currently Fox Sports football analyst and is excited about the world to see the football culture that the United States has built.
“I am excited, like a guy who lives in Los Angeles now and has for ten years, so that people come to visit Los Angeles and see the football culture we build here. I think of the final we build here in 1994 (when the World Cup was the last time in the United States),” Holden said.
“The other part that I am excited is that I have two young children, and I can not wait to take them to the games in our own backyard, and let them see the best players, the biggest teams and the experience, because this is how we inspire the next generation of people. Then, I am excited about those fans who will be inspired to be part of our game in the future.”
