Base Actor Jared Harris has opened the enormous “satisfactory” decision that Hari Seldon takes in the second episode of season 3.
Speaking to Techradar, Harris admitted that the crucial choice that one of his characters makes in Base Episode 2 of season 3, also known as ‘Shadows in the Math’, should happen so that Hari and Gaal could “move forward” of the dynamics of the master-student that defined them from the first entry of the original Apple TV.
Complete spoilers continue immediately for the second chapter of this season. Return if you haven’t seen it yet.
‘Shadows in the Math’ sees Hari Renegado in Gaal’s plan so that the couple enters and leaves Cryosleep for a few weeks every year to prepare the population of the second foundation based in Ignis for the arrival of the mule.
A few years after this plan, the duo realizes that they are running out of time to provide mentals, humans who have psychic and telepathic skills, the necessary tools to defeat Base The main villain of season 3. It is at this point that Hari reveals that he will stop entering Cryosleep to accelerate the mental understanding of psychohistory and make sure they are ready for battle.
However, despite promising to continue waking Gaal annually, Hari leaves her in Cryosleep for the next 146 years. When Gaal finally wakes up once again, 152 years have passed since Base Season 2 ended and, although the second base is much more prepared than it would have been to try to stop the mule, Hari is now an old and fragile.
After a sincere meeting, Hari once again promises a promise: this time, it will still be close to see it the next day. However, later that night, Kalle receives it, also known as the individual who previously resurrected Hari through mysterious media on a planet called Oona’s World in Base Season 2 Episode 3. Remember, in Base Episode 2 of season 1, Hari was killed by his adopted son Raych, who learned that he was part of Hari’s great plan later in the second place of the Apple TV+program.
In a nutshell, Kalle tells Hari that his career has been executed. Something reluctant from, but also accepting his destiny, Hari passes through a portal to the world of Oona with Kalle and does not see himself again.
The insinuation, of course, is that Hari has died for the second time. However, Harris’s time in one of the best Apple TV+ programs is not over, in fact, in fact, he also plays Dr. Sedon, a digital version of Hari’s consciousness that exists permanently in the vault.
However, Harris explained why ‘Shadows in mathematics’ was the right time for Hari to depart and let Gaal take the reins, although he did not stop if we would ever see Hari in future deliveries.
“There was no discussion [about Hari seemingly dying again]”Harris told me.” I felt that they [Foundation‘s writing team] I did not know what to do with Hari and Gaal’s relationship and was becoming a regurgitation tired of similar things from the past seasons.
“Personally, I wanted to see that relationship go ahead,” Harris continued. “One of the changes made in that episode was that [Hari walking away] It was a decision that he and Gaal took together, instead of one who took a secret that the blind man.
“As a consumer of this program, I also felt more satisfied that Gaal’s story was no longer defined by her relationship with my character. She is completely inhabiting her story, and this is her story because, from the beginning, she is the narrator of this program. So, it is important that Hari advances this, and Gaal discovers her own agency and is not retained by anyone else.”

That does not mean that, if this is the end of the line for Hari Seldon, Harris will not be lost portraying this version of the character.
“I found that version [Hari] Much more interesting to play because he is human, “Harris added.” The other [Doctor Seldon] Is this digitized awareness that allows some tricks in the storytelling, because he knows everything, so it was not interesting to play?
“But, the interesting thing about Dr. Seldon, and this is something that writers adjusted after talking to them during the second season, is that Dr. Seldon discovers that his conscience has been edited. That is something quite significant for him, because he always believed he was writing his own story and knew everything, but in reality it is a turn of another person in the game of another person.
