Four murdered police officers, seven injured in KP militant attacks


At least four police personnel were martyred and seven injured in multiple militant attacks in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa in the last 24 hours, including Peshawar, Upper Dir and Lower Dir, said the police on Thursday.

Two coordinated assaults took place in the Lower Dir Panah Kot area and at the Upper Dir control points, aimed at a police truck and security posts, authorities said.

Three police personnel died and six were injured in the Panah Kot attack, while a police officer was killed and another was injured in assaults at the Jobook and Shadas control points.

According to the police, the attackers used heavy weapons, including rocket launchers, but were repelled in most areas.

In Bannu, the gunmen transmitted by motorcycles opened fire in the control stalls of Khojari and Mazinga, while in Charsadda, an alleged militant threate a grenade at the Turlandi control point.

The appropriate counterattack frustrated the attacks and avoided victims in these incidents, police said.

In Peshawar, the armed men attacked the police posts of Sakhi Pul and Nasir Bagh, while the Tank City police station was also criticized.

The three attacks were repelled with the assailants who fled under the cover of darkness, police said.

The KP police inspector (PGI) Zulfiqar Hameed praised the “preparation and courage” of force, and promised to eliminate terrorism.

The security forces have launched search operations in the affected districts.
