SHO Gul Zada says the police officers were part of an Ababeel squad carrying out a routine patrol when they laid an ambush.
Four police officers were martyred and two others were injured on Wednesday when unidentified assailants opened fire on a patrol car of Ababeel police force in Nawi Killi area of Khar tehsil in Bajaur district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, according to police.
Police station officer Gul Zada confirmed the incident to The express PAkGazette and claimed that the police officers were part of an Ababeel squad that was on routine patrol during Ramadan when they were ambushed.
Terrorism has increased significantly in Pakistan, particularly in KP and Balochistan, in recent days. The rise in terrorist activity has raised growing concerns about the security situation in these regions.
In response, security forces have been carrying out intensive operations to counter the threat, targeting terrorist groups infiltrating from the Afghan border.

Last week, 12 Indian terrorists were killed, while 11 security personnel were martyred, as security forces foiled a terrorist attack on a checkpoint in Bajaur.
In another operation, security forces also foiled a major terrorist plot in Pishin district of Balochistan, killing five terrorists belonging to the Indian power. Fitna al Khwarij during a selective operation based on intelligence.
The federal government has been constantly raising its voice in international forums against terrorist sanctuaries operating in Afghanistan and using its soil to launch attacks against Pakistan, a fact witnessed by the United Nations Security Council.
Earlier this month, a suicide bomber attacked the Imambargah Khadijah al-Kubra during Friday prayers in Islamabad, killing 36 people and wounding about 169 others. The attack was the deadliest in Islamabad in more than a decade and the deadliest nationwide since the Peshawar mosque bombing in January 2023.
Immediately after the blast, raids were carried out in Nowshera and Peshawar, resulting in the arrest of four facilitators. The mastermind linked to Daesh, an Afghan national, was also captured. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said the network behind the blast was trained in Afghanistan and that authorities had gathered intelligence on the suspects before the attack.
