Four women die when roof collapses in Bajaur

Four women died on Wednesday after the roof of a house collapsed in Dak Lam Shah in Bajur, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP), trapping several people under the rubble.

According to a statement issued by Rescue 1122, medical and rescue teams were dispatched immediately upon receiving the report, adding that initial information indicated that five people were trapped under the rubble.

“Rescue personnel 1122 carried out operations to free the injured from the rubble. The victims received preliminary CPR in a rescue ambulance before being transferred in critical condition to Khar Regional Hospital. There, doctors confirmed that two women and two girls had died,” the statement said.

He said the victims were identified as the wives of Abdullah Jan and Rehmatullah, and the daughters of Rasool Khan and Aziz, while the injured included Rasool Khan’s wife.

However, the authority said the cause of the incident had not yet been determined and the investigation was ongoing.

Last month, at least 17 people died when roofs or walls collapsed due to heavy rains in KP. Bannu recorded the highest number of casualties, with eight dead, including seven children and one woman, and 42 injured. Abbottabad reported five deaths, including four children. In Kohat there were two fatalities, one in North Waziristan and in Battagram, a woman.

Several incidents of roof collapses were reported in Bannu. In Dad Kachlot village, the roof of Sher Muhammad Khan’s house collapsed, killing three children: nine-year-old Asif, six-year-old Umrah and three-year-old Javeria. In Kotka Ghulam Qadir, the roof of a terrace of a community center collapsed, killing two people and injuring 39.

In Mama Kheil, the wall of a house collapsed, killing two children, Abu Sufyan, 11, and Wajahatullah, eight. In Shamdi Khel, Miryan Road, the ceiling of a room in Iqbal’s house collapsed, killing Iqbal’s mother.
