The American tennis star Danielle Collins defended his outburst on a cameraman during a tournament last week.

The Collins incident occurred in the Internationaux in Strasbourg against Emma Raducanu. During a change, he told the cameraman to keep his distance while filling his bottle of water. She said the cameraman was acting “very inappropriate.”

She spoke extensively about it after the victory over Jodie Anna Burge in the first round of the France Open.

“I think what happened in Strasbourg is just that asking for personal space in my workplace. I don’t know why it is even a topic of discussion,” he said, through the tennis letter. “It should be something that we can have during, such as our work. The fact that I have had to ask so many times different in my career and during different matches to have an adequate level of personal space is a bit strange.

“I think it often seems that my answer is about the offense itself. I am learning that, as a woman, asking for personal space seems to be a problem for many people. I think it is really pathetic honestly, that it is even a topic of discussion. It is something that over time … It has not been anyone who has been able to make the adjustment.”

Collins said that in the video that went viral on social networks there were “so many people do not see.” She said fans “do not see the person go and stop just above Emma to get a good opportunity of me in a space of 2-3 feet.”

He added that he needed to be able to concentrate on the game itself without having a camera on his face.

“I am doing a performance job. I am trying to concentrate on my work. I am trying to keep my focus and concentration,” said Collins. “My work requires channeling physical, emotional and then logical things that happen. It is my job to put all this together. The last thing I should focus is on someone who is just above my opponent and on my face. It is really unnecessary.”

Collins wondered where the line was for those who worked behind the camera.

“I don’t necessarily think it was creepy,” he said. “But I think we should all be able to say, as, ‘hey. I would like some physical space’. You go to different tournaments, and questions well most of the time.
