- Biwin presents Mini SSD offering 512GB, 1TB and 2TB in a small footprint
- Mini SSD reads 3,700 Mb/Sy writes at 3,400 Mb/s using PCIE 4×2
- The device is smaller than a penny from the US
The Biwin Chinese storage company has presented a new storage format called “Mini SSD”, designed for laptops, tablets, telephones and cameras.
With only 15 x 17 mm and 1.4 mm thick, it is smaller than a penny of the USA, while offering storage options of 512GB, 1TB and 2TB.
Biwin affirms sequential reading speeds of 3,700 MB/s with 3,400 MB/s deeds on a 4×2 PCIE connection, which makes the Mini SSD a contender against the traditional units of M.2.

To contextualize its performance, a standard Express MicroSD card compatible with devices such as the Nintendo Switch 2 is turned on in a 985 MB/s theorist.
Full -size SD cards can reach 3,940 MB/s, almost coinciding with the mini SSD but almost double the physical size.
The M.2 units remain faster, with 2230 variants that approach the 8,000 MB/Sy 2280 models that reach up to 14,000 MB/s.
The mini SSD also compares with Nano-Sim cards, which are smaller but designed for communication instead of storage.
While the creation of Biwin is compact, it does not seem to be a universal standard, leaving questions about a broader adoption.
The Mini SSD presents a dedicated slot that works as a SIM Smart Telephone tray: users can eliminate storage by inserting a pin, which could simplify swaps and updates for certain devices.
This device admits resistance to water and IP68 dust, along with the ability to survive three meters drops.
Two new Chinese game laptops have already incorporated the Mini SSD: the Win 5 GPD, known for its great battery and its Strix Halo chip, and the laptop or Hybrid Hybrid Hybrid OneNenetBook Onenetbook tablet, both dedicated slots for the Mini SSD.
Although these devices have been announced, none of them have revealed prices or other listings of commercial products.
Although the traditional M.2 units still exceed the mini SSD at gross speed, the new format offers a balance of size and performance that can attract mobile users.
Its compact dimensions, combined with rapid reading and writing speeds, positions as a contender for SSD’s greater capabilities in a minimum footprint.
For users looking for a practical portable solution, the Mini SSD could be considered among the best external SSD options in its category.
Its very small size also means that users must handle the device carefully, since it can easily be lost.
