According to public relations between services (ISPR), the assailants, who are believed to be members of the Khawarij, tried to infiltrate the military closure. However, the rapid actions of the security forces prevented them from violating the area.

As the terrorists were forced to enter a state of panic due to the rapid response, they tried to detonate two vehicles loaded with bombs colliding with the walls surrounding Bannu Cantt.
