ISLAMABAD:

The government has assured its coalition partners that oil prices will reduce once the prevailing situation normalises, offering a measure of relief amid rising fuel costs and growing economic pressure on consumers across the country.

The assurance came during a joint parliamentary meeting of the ruling alliance’s parliamentary party held in Parliament under the chairmanship of Defense Minister Khawaja Asif, where key leaders of the coalition were taken into confidence over the recent price adjustments.

According to officials, ministers told participants that the rise in oil prices was due to extraordinary circumstances, while emphasizing that steps would be taken to transfer relief as soon as conditions improved.

The meeting was attended by leaders of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and other allied parties.

Among those present at the meeting were Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, along with several senior legislators.

During the session, the Finance and Petroleum Ministers briefed the parliamentary leaders on the current situation, outlining the measures taken to ensure uninterrupted supply of petroleum products and manage the impact of external pressures on the domestic market.

In a statement issued after the meeting, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Tariq Fazal Chaudhry said coalition partners expressed confidence in the federal government’s policies and supported its handling of the situation.

Chaudhry added that other oil price-related measures were also discussed, and ministers reiterated their commitment to easing the burden on consumers as soon as possible.

The meeting also reviewed contingency planning and coordination among coalition partners to respond to changing economic conditions, with an emphasis on maintaining stability and public trust.

Participants underlined the importance of a unified policy approach to address economic challenges, while supporting measures aimed at stabilizing prices and ensuring consistent supply chains.

Officials have maintained that once the situation returns to normal, the government would take steps to reduce oil prices, signaling a possible reduction in fuel costs if external pressures ease.
