- The first Fujifilm movie camera includes a 102MP 44×33 mm sensor
- You can record an 8K video in a variety of formats, including anamorphic
- The PRO model costs $ 16,499 (United Kingdom Price TB and Australia)
It has been a long time, but Fujifilm has finally presented its first film camera, the eternal GFX 55, after its soft announcement last year.
As the name implies, the expensive professional film chamber uses the same ‘medium format’ sensor technology as the flagship oriented chamber of Fujifilm, the five -star GFX100 II II, but the packaging in a high -end dedicated cinema body.
We obtain the same 44×33 mm second generation sensor that is much larger than the full frame (colloquially known as ‘average format’, but not true average format that photographers know it), and that unleashes a wide range of film formats and resolutions, including 8K anamorphic.
However, they are not mistaken, this is not a hybrid model like the Fujifilm flagship, or a compact movie camera such as the recent Canon EOS C50, but a pro -bestial (and expensive) model: at $ 16,499.95 is more than double the price of GFX100 II (TBC of Price of the United Kingdom and Australia).
Together with the camera, Fujifilm announced the new GF 32-90 mm T3.5 PZ OIS WR ($ 5,999.95, United Kingdom and AU TB), a cinema lens dedicated with an equivalent full framework of 25-71 mm, which is designed to combine with the eternal GFX 55.
With players established as a network, it is not an easy task to enter the professional space of the film camera, but the eternal GFX 55 seems to have the tools and lenses, to do exactly that. Let’s run through the highlighted characteristics.
A new player in the Pro Cinema camera space
Many of the internal GFX 55 are the same as the GFX100 II, including that 102MP 44×33 rival sensor, video recording up to 8K and the full range of simulation color profiles of Fujifilm films.
Other similarities include the various video codecs, with internal apples 422 HQ, proxy and external 12 -bit external through HDMI with a double base ISO (800 and 3200) and a dynamic range greater than 14EV.
The cameras also use the same W235 battery and record on the type B and SD CFEXPRESS cards. Boarding the eternal GFX 55 with a GF lens equipped with automatic approach, and also admits the detection of the subject and the monitoring of the automatic approach.
We have tried the video capabilities of Eternal 55 already through GFX100 II. However, the new thing is totally new is the camera design, the experience and the dedicated video characteristics.
With a weight of 4.41 pounds / 2 kg and measure at 110.8 x 138.2 x 176.8 mm, the eternal GFX 55 is not its hand film camera, but one designed for a large -scale tripod or gimbal, especially once a voluminous cinema lens, eye and accessories are united (see above).
You get twin screens; A point of 1.04m 3 inches on board and a 5.22m-Dot 5-inch type with 2,000nit brightness (supplied hood). There is also an incorporated variable electronic filter, with a range of 2-7EV that can be changed in increases in childbirth, plus a selection of pro-degrade connection ports.
Fujifilm is entering a notoriously difficult market to break with the eternal GFX 55. However, it has the specifications to impress. Surely expects a short call Well By director/writer Andrew Kightlinger and photography director Oren Soffer, who shows the camera’s skills (soon), will help do exactly that.
