- Retro compact with unique vertical sensor and LCD screen
- Reimagina The experience of the midfielder camera
- It is available worldwide from June 12 in three colors, with a price of $ 849 / £ 699 / au $ 1,349
Fujifilm has been overcome with the new X Half, a retro compact camera that includes some of its craziest and most fun ideas, all inspired by movies photography.
There is a clue about the inspiration of X Half in the name: it is a digital reinvention of mid -frame movie cameras such as the Pentax 17. I have already tried half X, and it was a very necessary dose of fun, look at my X Half Halt Review.
To facilitate the medium picture, the 18MP JPEG photos of the X Half of X are taken in vertical format of 3 x 4, are recorded in a vertical sensor of 1 inch and are composed using the unique vertical LCD.
Next to that fixed screen there is a secondary screen that mimics the film boat window you see in many movie cameras, and there is a fun surprise here: it is sensitive to touch and allows you to slide up or down to select one of Fujifilm’s movies simulations. If this lovely feature does not reach future Fujifilm cameras, I would surprise me.
The color effects of film simulation are well known: they are inspired by the Fujifilm films stock and have helped consolidate the popularity of Fujifilm in the last 10 years through cameras such as X100VI. The X Half offers a selection of recoil of 13 popular simulations of films, including Provia and Astia.
One would think that all of the above would be enough to ensure the unique state of X Half, but Fujifilm has really released, with even more characteristics for film fans to enjoy.
Simulating the film to another level
Going one step beyond that double screen screen and vertical filming, there is a movie camera mode. This blocks the chosen film simulation and camera configuration, such as ISO, and disables the preview of the screen, letting you compose your catches through the optical viewfinder, as if you were filming with a movie.
Once your ‘movie’ is used, either 36, 54 or 72 shots, you can go out and see the screen once again, and make changes in the configuration again.
The film camera mode is a very funny feature, and for me it is the experience closest to the photography of movies that I have had using a digital camera, and It is optional.
Then there is what is in effect a wind lever of the film, which in this case, through ‘Starts’, is used to create dipteos, are two vertical shots next to each other. These are recorded individually through the 1 -inch vertical sensor, but then they are composed and shown as it would be obtained with a half -painting movie camera in a 35 mm film roll.
Again, you can take or leave the Diptych function. I think it is good to have it: solve how image pairs complement each other stretch the creative muscles.
We also obtain some completely new image effects, almost all of which are inspired by films photography and include light leaks, expired film and halation.
Full HD video capture is also possible, and the diptych effect can be applied to both photos and videos, which is really good.
All this is packaged in a premium sensation compact of the size of a palm that has a fixed lens of 32 mm F/2.8 with a mechanical opening, in addition to the same battery that is used in cameras such as the X100VI for a useful life of 880 shots, and that weighs only 240 g.
Fujifilm has created a dedicated application for half X, which can be used to make diptychs, and load and see images, in addition to the camera can be connected wirelessly to one of Fujifilm’s Instax Prinx for printing on the march.
The application was not available when I tried the camera, but it can be downloaded from the beginning of June. Meanwhile, half of Fujifilm X itself will be available worldwide from June 12 in silver, coal and black, and costs $ 849 / £ 699 / au $ 1,349.
I have been reviewing digital cameras for 15 years, and half of Fujifilm X has to be one of the funniest so far: a compact camera with a difference. You can configure it in a way that is as close to a movie camera as you will obtain with the digital, in addition to packing the retro appearance that we expect from Fujifilm.
