Kit Harington believes the secret to his nearly eight-year marriage to Rose Leslie lies in love, honesty and teamwork.
In a recent interview with Porter, the 39-year-old actor opened up about how he and Leslie, who share two children, face life’s challenges together.
“Rose and I take great care of each other,” he explained. “We are very loving and tactile, and we make sure to tell each other that we love each other.”
Best known for his role as Jon Snow in game of ThronesHarington described his wife as “the most genuine soul.”
He credited her with supporting him through difficult times, including his struggle with alcohol.
“I’m very, very lucky. Rose was there through all the hard things and she’s been on some journeys with me. But it’s really worked out.”
That support was especially evident during his recent role as addict Sir Henry on HBO’s Industry.
Knowing the story would be emotionally heavy, Leslie stepped in to balance family life.
While working on a play in Stratford, he told Harington: “Okay, take the kids while you film in Cardiff.”
For the actor, returning home to his children after long days of filming became a driving force.
“Everything dark that he had had to deal with during the day was gone… He would come home and be a father.”
Harington has been candid about his past dependence on alcohol and his decision to enter rehab in 2019.
Now he says sobriety changed his life, allowing him to more fully embrace fatherhood and marriage.
“My life is better this way,” he reflected. “I think everything happened at just the right time. I made some decisions and then everything fell into place… I think my kids met me at the right time.”
For Harington, the real secret to a lasting marriage is not avoiding difficulties.
It is facing it together with love and resilience.
