Gandapur demands a NFC meeting

Peshawar:

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s prime minister, Ali Amin Gandapur, has written to President Asif Ali Zardari, urging him to immediately convene a meeting of the Tenth National Commission of Finance (NFC), citing constitutional and financial concerns linked to the mérture of the old tribal areas administered by Federally (Fata) in KP.

In his letter, Gandapur emphasized that after the 25th constitutional amendment, the 5.7 million residents of the old Fata are now officially part of KP. However, he declared that the financial resources assigned to these regions remain under federal control, according to Express News.

“The seventh NFC award was issued in 2010, and no adjustments have been made to reflect the changes caused by amendment 25,” wrote the prime minister. He argued that continuing the seventh NFC award without such revisions is “unconstitutional, illegal and inappropriate.”

Gandapur said that extending the current NFC award violates article 160 of the Constitution, as well as the provisions of amendment 25. He said that the extension of the obsolete prize is unacceptable for the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, who has not received its legitimate part of the resources.

Asking for immediate measures, he urged the president to make sure that the tenth meeting of the NFC commission becomes without delay.

He warned that the denial of the mandatory rights of the fused districts is obstructing the development and efforts to establish sustainable peace and stability in those areas.

He also demanded that the Federal Government begin to assign financial resources to KP based on the revised population figures, which now include fused tribal districts.
