- Garmin has revealed his instinct crossover by Garmin Amoled
- It is an instinct 3 variant with analog hands in front of the screen
- Garmin’s original crossover received great praise (my part, anyway)
I loved the original Garmin Instinct crossover. A resistant smart watch with analog hands, used Revodrive technology to obtain precise information of Garmin’s satellite network, adjusting your hands accordingly. When I wanted to use smartwatch functionalities, a press button by moving your hands off the screen. It was brilliant in its simplicity.
As someone with a weak point for both Casio G-Shocks and for the best Garmin watches, the instinct crossover was felt as a marriage of both in the best possible way. I gave him 4.5 stars in my Crossover review of Garmin Instinct, and made my list of the best hybrid smart watches to buy.
It was unlifest, it stood out in my wrist and it was very annoying, and probably too expensive for what it was, but I honestly didn’t care. I just thought it was great.
Imagine my emotion when I knew that Garmin is doing another! Like Instinct’s original crossover, it was a version of the Garmin Instinct 2, the Garmin Instinct Amoled crossover shares the design spirit of the Garmin Instinct 3, which I also described very well in my Review Garmin Instinct 3. Garmin Instinct 3.
A new feature in Garmin Watches is the registration of lifestyle, which allows users to record triggers such as caffeine and alcohol in the same way as the Oura label or Whoop’s Journal labeling system. This can help provide context for erratic heart rate and sleep readings. The battery life is strong but not surprising for Garmin, at 14 days in smartwatch mode.
However, the true attraction remains the physical analog hands driven by Revodrive technology, and the charm of having an “appropriate” clock that still puts all the functionalities of a Garmin. As users exercise, they sleep and recover, they still get all the advanced readings provided by a Garmin watch. Revodrive hands are an orderly trick, and are mostly cosmetic function: they actually limit the information shown on the new AMOLED screen.
But damn it, looks great and I want one, especially in that new color in white and orange. It reminds me of a heavy duty construction team.
The Garmin Instinct Crossover Amoled is now available, from $ 649.99 (around £ 475 / AU $ 975). A tactical edition with Garmin’s military functionalities is also available as an instantaneous murder switch, which costs $ 749.99 (around £ 550 / au $ 1,100).
