ISLAMABAD:
A gas explosion in the basement dining room of the Supreme Court on Tuesday left 12 people injured, two of them in critical condition, prompting a rapid rescue and evacuation operation.
According to first reports, the explosion occurred in the gas and air conditioning plant installed in the basement of the dining room, shaking parts of the building and forcing lawyers and court staff to run for safety.
Rescuers immediately reached the spot and shifted the injured to nearby hospitals for medical treatment. Rescue officials said the explosion was caused by a leak in the air conditioning gas system, which ignited during maintenance work.
