GB Bans Bans Hotel Construction around Los Lagos

Gilgit:

The administration in Gilgit-Baltistan will prohibit for five years the construction of new hotels around the picturesque lakes in the north who attract tens of thousands of tourists every year, a government agency said.

The unregulated construction of hotels in GB, which has around 13,000 glaciers, more than any other country outside the polar regions, has caused significant concerns about environmental degradation.

The natural beauty of the region has made it a superior tourist destination, with imposing peaks that are coming on the old silk route, and a road that transports tourists between cherry gardens, glaciers and blue lakes.
