GB Government urges unity as shadows of land disputes flood crisis

Gilgit:

A land over low heat and a border dispute between the communities in the districts of Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) Ghizer and Diamer has resurfaced, coinciding with devastating floods that have already mistreated both regions.

Government spokesman Faizullah Faraq said Tuesday that the administration is making “serious and effective efforts” to solve the problem of the Nallah Singgal border.

He stressed that the administration of Ghizer and the Police are handling the matter with professionalism and impartiality.

“The State Judicial Order will not be committed under any circumstance,” he warned, while appealing to the residents to remember their shared cultural, linguistic and social ties. He described Gilgit-Baltistan as “a bouquet of various flowers.”

The situation was tense on Monday when dozens of armed men were seen in the dispute area, only one day after the floods wreaked havoc on GB. It was reported that Ghizer and Diamer were among the districts worse. The Prime Minister, Haji Gulbar Khan, convened a high -level meeting to address the matter, while local peace committees and other interested parties have also pledged to reduce tensions.

To prevent violence, GB explorers have been deployed on both sides of the dispute limit, with the police and other security agencies that provide additional support.

“At a time when natural disasters have caused immense suffering, our duty is to share pain and support for flood victims,” Faraq added. “Limit disputes can be resolved through jirgas and negotiations at a later stage. At this time, the approach must remain in rehabilitation and solidarity.”
