- A new Google Maps function for Gemini Live has been seen
- I would explain information from the Google Maps place
- We are not sure when the function could go live for everyone
Google continues to create new features in addition to its live experience of Gemini, where you can naturally chat with AI and show you the world that surrounds it through your phone’s camera, and it seems that a useful update of Google Maps is on its way.
Android Authority team has seen the hidden code in the last Google application for Android that allows you to overlap Google Maps information at the top of the camera viewfinder, so you get more details about what you are seeing.
So, for example, you can see the name of a restaurant and its Google Maps rating emerges if your phone’s camera is looking down a street. It sounds similar to the augmented reality function of Google (AR) lenses that is already available within the Google Maps application.
At the moment, you can use Gemini Live to point your camera in places in front of you, whether they are reference or business points, and ask questions about them. Once this new feature arrives, you will also obtain the add -registered Google Maps data.
Smarter device
The Android Authority team has managed to start the function, and looks quite basic at this time. You can also obtain Google Maps information in audio mode, but it must be specific to the places where you want details.
Of course, this type of superposition enabled for AR would be useful for smart glasses: imagine being able to mention a Google Maps information card directly in its line of vision. We can see a new pair of Samsung’s intelligent specifications arriving before the end of the month.
It is also based on the upper part of the new visual guide function for Gemini Live that Google demonstrated in the Pixel 10 launch event, which highlights specific objects in the camera viewfinder, such as buttons, parking places, tools or anything else that is useful.
There are no indications of when this feature could be implemented in the masses, but taking into account the necessary code is already in place, and that Google has been anxious to expel the functions of AI as quickly as possible, it should not spend much time before we all see it.
