By many accounts, Shedeur Sanders was statistically one of the worst quarterbacks in the NFL this season; however, he still received one of the league’s highest honors.
The NFL announced Tuesday that the Cleveland Browns quarterback was named to the AFC Pro Bowl.
Pro Bowl quarterbacks from the AFC were Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills, Justin Herbert of the Los Angeles Chargers and Drake Maye of the New England Patriots. With Maye set to play in Super Bowl LX after defeating the Denver Broncos in the AFC Championship Game, a replacement was necessary.

However, Sanders’ choice sparked some laughter on social media, including from New York Giants offensive lineman Jermaine Eluemunor.
“No hate but the Pro Bowl is a joke lol,” Eluemunor posted on X on Monday. “[Andrew Thomas] The best LT in the NFL hasn’t done one yet, but if you’re popular you get in. “It’s ridiculous right now.”
“Like I said, I don’t hate, but how come Cam Ward isn’t the replacement? Haha, both he and [Jaxson] “Dart left this season,” he added.
Sanders didn’t start the year with the Browns, but he made a big impression in the second half, getting the nod in the remaining seven games of the season and going 3-4 in that span. He won his first start, prompting him to retain his position for the remainder of the season.

But the numbers were not pretty. He completed 56.6% of his passes for 1,400 yards with seven touchdowns and 10 interceptions in eight total games. Pro Football Network ranked him 42nd among its 43 eligible quarterbacks. Among quarterbacks who threw more than 200 times, his quarterback rating of 68.1 was the lowest in football and ranks near the bottom of numerous analytical metrics.
While going to a Pro Bowl is always a huge accomplishment, Sanders knows there’s nothing solidified for his role in 2026. Browns general manager Andrew Berry told reporters after the season that he won’t commit to Sanders or any other quarterback.

“We’re going to do our job in the quarterback market,” Berry said. “It’s too important a position and it’s something that has to be solidified.”
