Gilani acquitted in cases of TDAP corruption

The Federal Anti -Corruption Court has acquitted the president of Senate Yousaf Raza Gilani in three cases related to the Commercial Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) corruption scandal.

During the hearing, Gilani appeared before the court in person. The judge informed him that a verdict had been reached in three cases against him, to which he recognized the decision, Express News reported Friday.

The court asked Gilani what prison he would prefer: Karachi, fine or Islamabad. Gilani replied that he was not afraid of jail. “The prison is nothing new to us. If you wish, you can even sentence me to death,” Gilani said. The court also indicated that those who had testified against Gilani now faced legal positions.

Together with Gilani, another 40 individuals were acquitted in the case of TDAP corruption. Despite this acquittal, Gilani still faces another 23 cases related to the TDAP corruption scandal.

Gilani, together with senior TDAP officials and others, had been accused of approved and disburse these subsidies.

The case involved accusations of improper appropriation of commercial subsidies, where thousands of millions of rupees were distributed to fraudulent companies through counterfeit claims and backed checks during the PPP government.
