A luxury vehicle worth Rs 90 million has been purchased for the Senate President from the Senate budget, confirmed Senate President Yousuf Raza Gilani.
According to details, the expensive vehicle was purchased from the Senate budget and has already reached the Pakistan Senate Secretariat, sources said.
When contacted by Express News regarding the purchase, Gilani confirmed that the car had been purchased. “Yes, we bought the car from the Senate budget, but we ordered it in May of last year,” he said.
He explained that the vehicle had been ordered with savings from the previous year’s Senate budget. Gilani added that he had attempted to return the vehicle given the country’s current economic situation, but was told that the car had already arrived.
Earlier in June, Federal Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb had stated in Parliament that the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the National Assembly received a monthly salary of Rs 2.15 million.
At the time, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif objected, saying the massive increase in the salaries of the Senate president, National Assembly speaker and others amounted to “economic obscenity.”
