Karachi:
A court of first instance at the country’s economic center acquitted the president of the Senate on Friday, Yusuf Raza Gilani, and other defendants in all cases presented during the PML-N rule in 2013 in relation to a scandal of the Commercial Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP).
The Federal Research Agency (FIA) had presented a total of 26 cases against Gilani, which served as prime minister between 2008 and 2012, for allegedly taking RS5 million in subsidies illegally under a TDAP program. Gilani had faced cases during the last 12 years.
The Federal Anti -Corruption Court in Karachi acquitted the PPP leader in three cases of TDAP on March 8, 2025 and Nine TDAP cases last week on July 11. The judge announced his verdict of acquitting Gilani and others in the remaining 14 cases on Friday.
During the procedures, attended by the president of the Senate, the President Judge said that he had reviewed each case separately, heard all the parties thoroughly and made the decisions to acquit the accused based on the archives received from the Superior Court.
Speaking to the media after the hearing, Gilani Farooq H Naek said that all these cases were based on complaints from a specific individual. He said that Gilani was also declared imponent even after obtaining bail in 10 cases.
Naek said the court had now delivered justice by rejecting all the accusations and acquitting Gilani. He thanked the judge and described the decision as a great legal victory against false accusations.
Speaking on the occasion, Yusuf Raza Gilani declared that the accusations were politically motivated and false, but he was grateful to God for being completely acquitted of all cases.
He appreciated the legal experience of his lawyer Farooq H Naek, and emphasized the urgent need for legislation to ensure that pending cases are resolved and do not hang indefinitely.
